Before Antietam

Age 22 years. Enlisted April 23, 1861 at New York City and mustered in as First Sergeant, Company C on May 4. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant, Company I on March 15, 1862.

On the Campaign

In his after-action report, Colonel Kimball said "Lieutenants Bartholomew, Burdett, McKechnie, Klingsoehr and Powell, all performed their duty in the most gallant manner, and to my entire satisfaction."

The rest of the War

He mustered as First Lieutenant, Company C on November 1, 1862 and mustered out with the company May 20, 1863.
