A 27 year old farmer in Richmond County, he enlisted there as a Private in Company D - the Sons of Mars - 46th Regiment North Carolina State Troops on 20 February 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured in action in the Wilderness, VA on 5 May 1864.

His service from Moore1, who lists him as Schell. Thanks to GGGrandson Jim Scholl for bringing him to our attention and putting him at Sharpsburg. His gravesite is on Findagrave.
