Before Sharpsburg

In the 1850 Federal Census he was a 24 year old single lawyer in Davie, NC. From Rowan County, he was speaker of the NC House of Commons 1860-61. By April 1862 he was First Lieutenant of Company B.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted Captain 1 October 1862. Killed in action 5 May 1864.
