From Randolph County, a 23 year old student, he enlisted as 3rd Sergeant of Company F, 46th North Carolina Infantry on 25 February 1862 in Salisbury, NC.

On the Campaign

He was left behind, sick, near Harpers Ferry, VA on 16 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was listed as "dead but not officially reported" in April 1863 then dropped from the Company rolls, but he returned to duty on 25 September 1864. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

He became a Methodist minister.
