Enlisted in Company B, Third Infantry, from Newberry District on 14 April 1861 as Fifth Sergeant. Elected 3rd Lieutenant by election on the Regiment's reorganization on 13 May 1862, and promoted to Second Lieutenant after 19 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 23 October 1862, probably in or near Shepherdstown, VA (now WV).
