He enlisted in Williston on 16 November 1861 as a Private in Captain H D Evans' Company, Martin's Mounted Regiment, SC Militia, and was absent on a Surgeon's Certificate after 26 January 1862. He enlisted again, on 1 July 1862 in Lexington, SC as a Private in Company H, Third South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

His service from Salley,1 as G.A.E. Yon, and his Compiled Service Records,2 online from fold3, as G.A.E. You, killed on 13 September 1862. He may have been named for a Hugenot family ancestor who came to South Carolina from Holland in 1761 - George Adam Yon (1698-1770).
