From Buena Vista, GA, he enlisted in the Marion Guards - Company K, 12th Georgia Infantry on 15 June 1861. He was appointed Second Sergeant on 23 July 1861. He was possibly appointed Jr. 2nd Lieutenant sometime in 1862, but is generally referred to as Sergeant in the records.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, though initially listed as missing there.

The rest of the War

He was probably buried on the battlefield and later removed to an grave marked "unknown" in the Hagerstown Confederate Cemetery after the War.
