Enlisted in Company D, Third Infantry on 13 May 1862 then from Newberry, SC. He was wounded in action near Richmond, VA on 25 January 1862.

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg, losing sight in one eye.
The rest of the War
At home on furlough through at least August 1863 and on rolls with his Company by December 1863. On detached service to December 1864, in the Quartermaster's Department.
After the War
He was a builder and contractor in Newberry, SC.
