Entered the service as First Sergeant Company F, 2nd Maryland Infantry; promoted Second Lieutenant Company A, June 14, 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was promoted First Lieutenant and Adjutant of the Regiment on 10 March 1863. He was taken prisoner in action on 30 September 1864 at Poplar Springs Church, VA. He was exchanged on 10 March 1865.
