Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 31 year old physician in Newton Lower Falls, MA. He was prominent in chartering the new Masonic Lodge at Newtonville in 1861. He was commissioned Assistant Surgeon in the 12th Massachusetts Infantry on 29 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862, and died the same day.
