He enlisted in Company I, Third Infantry as 2nd Corporal in June 1861. Reduced in rank before 31 October 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

Promoted to Corporal between February and May 1863, reduced again and assigned as Wagonmaster of the regiment May 1863 to November 1864. Paroled at Greensboro on 2 May 1865.
