Before Antietam
He enlisted in Company D, 7th Ohio Infantry (3 months) in April 1861, and was First Sergeant. He enrolled as First Lieutenant, Company D, 7th Ohio Infantry (3 years) on 17 June 1861 at age 22. Promoted to Captain of Company E on 5 February 1862.
On the Campaign
He was in action at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He resigned his commission on 22 February 1863.
After the War
He was employed in construction of railroads, including the Union Pacific.
