He enlisted in Company E, 14th Louisiana Infantry on 25 June 1861 in New Orleans. He had been sick at Williamsburg and Yorktown, VA in January and February 1862.

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was reported as having deserted from the hospital.
