Before Sharpsburg
He was a 30 year old laborer living in New Orleans when he enlisted as Sergeant, Company I, 10th Louisiana Infantry on 22 July 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. He was promoted to 4th Sergeant on 15 October 1861, and 2nd Sergeant on 1 February 1862.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was paroled at Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange on 18 October 1862. Delivered at Aikens Landing, VA on 25 October, and declared exchanged at Aikens Landing on 10 November 1862. He reportedly "Deserted His Regiment and Joined Confederate Artillery" in May 1863.
