An unmarried carpenter in New Orleans, age 27, he enlisted as Private in Company A, 7th Louisiana Infantry on 12 June 1861 at Tangipahoa, LA.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was received at Fort McHenry, MD on 25 October 1862. Paroled and sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange 30 October, and exchanged on 10 November. He was again captured, in action at Spottsylvania Courthouse, VA on 11 May 1864. Held at Point Lookout, MD from 18 May 1864 tip paroled at Point Lookout and exchanged at James River, VA on 15 February 1865.
