He enlisted as Private in Company E, 8th Louisiana Infantry on 24 February 1862 in Franklin Parish. He was then a 20 year old farmer in Winnsboro, LA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg

The rest of the War

He lost his leg after Sharpsburg. A prisoner, he was sent to Baltimore, MD from Frederick on 27 October 1862. He was paroled at Aiken's Landing, VA on 2 November, and exchanged there on 10 November 1862. He did not return to his Company, and was recorded as "retired". He was paroled at War's end on 8 May 1865, destination Franklin, LA.
