Before Antietam
He enlisted 4 January 1862 in New York City at age 27 in the 10th Battery, NY Light Artillery. He transferred to the Fifth Battery on 20 January.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action "near Sharpsburg" on 16 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He reenlisted on 4 January 1864. He was again wounded, at Fishers Hill, VA on 22 September 1864. He was promoted to Corporal on 9 April 1865 and mustered out with the Battery on 6 July 1865, at Harts Island, New York Harbor.
