He was admitted to No. 5 US Army Hospital in Frederick, MD on Oct. 15th, 1862, and sent to Fort McHenry, MD Oct. 18th, 1862. Paroled and sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange at Aikens Landing, VA on Nov. 10th, 1862. muster rolls from Nov. 1862 to June 1863 state he was "Absent Without Leave Since Dec., 1862 ... Deserted in Nov. 1862. Supposed to Be in Mobile, Ala."
