A 21 year old doctor there, he enlisted in Company E, 5th Louisiana Infantry on May 10th, 1861 in New Orleans. He was wounded in action at Bristow Station, Orange & Alexandria Railroad on Aug. 27th, 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was on the rolls as absent, wounded to October 1862, absent without leave to February 1863, but present with his Company by March 1863. He was appointed Ordnance Sergeant on 22 April 1863. Absent without leave again in March and April 1864, but present May through September 1864.
