Before Sharpsburg
He had gone to California in 1849 looking for gold, and was Sheriff of Union Parish, Louisiana 1858-1861. He enlisted in Company A, 6th Louisiana Ingfantry on June 4th, 1861 at Camp Moore, LA, and was elected First Lieutenant. He was promoted to Captain on 8 May 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
Probably buried on the battlefield, though there is a memorial stone for him in Farmerville, Union Parish, LA.
