He was a 19 year old clerk in Opelousas, LA when he enlisted in Company F, 8th Louisiana Infantry on June 26th, 1861 in New Orleans. He was elected Ordnance Sergeant on April 25th, 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted Oct. 15th, 1862. to No. 5 US Army General Hospital at Frederick, MD. Paroled at Ft. McHenry on Oct. 18th, 1862. Sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange and exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on Nov. 10th, 1862. He was furloughed and returned home to Louisiana. He was eventually dropped from the Company rolls.
