He enlisted in Company D as Private - September 9, 1861. He was appointed 4th Corporal.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 10 September 1862 at Frederick, MD and captured there on the 12th.

The rest of the War

He spent time in the US Army General Hospital No. 1 at Frederick, and at Ft. Delaware, then was sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange on 8 October. He was in Winder Hospital, Richmond, VA to 3 November 1862, and returned to duty. He was absent sick for much of 1864 (with and without leave). Pension records show he surrendered at Appomattox, Virginia, April 9, 1865.
