Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 21 year old living with his parents and siblings on their small farm at Bengal in Bulloch County, GA. He enlisted in Company D, 61st Georgia Infantry as a Private on 9 September 1861 and was appointed Sergeant on 16 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in a field hospital on 28 September 1862.
