He enlisted in Company I, 5th New Hampshire Infantry at age 17 on 21 September 1861. He was wounded in action at Fair Oaks, VA on 1 June 1862.

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was again wounded, in action at Gettysburg, PA and died of wounds on 1 August 1863.
