A collier from Franconia, he enlisted at age 28 in Company B, 5th New Hampshire Infantry on 28 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, in action at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863. He was discharged for disability at Concord, NH on 20 November 1863.

After the War

He died young, not yet 33 years old, of lung disease and a chronic cough.
