Before Antietam
From Plaistow, he enlisted at age 20 in Company K, 5th New Hampshire Infantry on 30 September 1861. He was wounded at Malvern Hill, VA on 1 July 1862.

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He was discharged for disability on 11 December 1862 and died 1 March 1863 in Plaistow, NH.
