Before Antietam

From Milton, giving his age as 18, he enlisted in Company A, 5th New Hampshire Infantry on 21 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, in action at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863. He mustered out at the end of his term of service on 29 October 1864. He later served in Company C, 7th Infantry U. S. Veteran Volunteers.

After the War

He was living in Milton in 1893.

Basic information from Child, M.D.1. His death date from the Journal of the annual encampment of the Department of New Hampshire GAR for 1897. According to US Census data, he may have been born in 1846 - which would have made him about 15 at enlistment.
