Before Antietam
From Sandwich, he enlisted at age 29 in Company B, 5th New Hampshire Infantry on 22 October 1861. He transferred to Company H on 9 January 1862.

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 a Antietam.

He died of wounds on 3 July 1863 at Frederick, MD.
