Before Antietam
From Franklin, he enlisted at age 19 in Company E, 5th New Hampshire Infantry on 30 September 1861. He was discharged at Annapolis, MD on 25 June 1862 for disability, but reenlisted on 11 August.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He transferred to Company G on 11 May 1864 and was discharged at Alexandria, VA on 31 May 1865.
