Before Antietam
From Nottingham, he enlisted at age 25 in Company F, 5th New Hampshire Infantry on 26 October 1861. He transferred to Company B on 31 October. He was wounded in the legs 1836 at Fair Oaks, VA on 1 June 1862.

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He was discharged on disability on 20 November 1863 at Concord, NH.
After the War
He was living in Nottingham, NH in 1893.
