From Hampton, he enlisted at age 27 in Company D, 5th New Hampshire Infantry on 23 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was discharged for disability on 20 November 1862. He reenlisted, as Private in Company K, First New Hampshire Heavy Artillery on 3 September 1864. He was mustered out on 15 June 1865.

After the War

He was living in Hampton, NH in 1893.
