Before Antietam
He was a student at the Boscawen Academy in 1858 and Franklin Academy in 1859. He enlisted at age 20 in Company F, 5th New Hampshire Infantry on 12 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds on 7 October 1862 at Sharpsburg.
After the War
The George F Sweatt [sic] Post, No. 38, Grand Army of the Republic, in Franklin Falls, NH was named for him.
