Before Antietam
A resident of Dummer, he enlisted in Company B, Fifth New Hampshire Infantry on 4 October 1861, and mustered as Sergeant on the 24th. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 8 September 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
Appointed First Lieutenant, Company I on 18 December 1862, and Captain, Company A on 1 October 1863. He mustered out 29 October 1864, at the expiration of his term, but was re-appointed Captain the same day. He mustered out of the service on 28 June 1865.
