He enlisted in Company F, 155th Pennsylvania Infantry on 22 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was shot in the foot or leg at camp near Rockville, MD on 14 September 1862 "by an over-officious guard for trespassing on a peach orchard".
The rest of the War
His leg was amputated and he was discharged on a Surgeon's Certificate on 9 June 1863.
