A 20 year old farmer in Allegheny County, he enlisted in Pittsburg on 11 August 1862 and mustered as Private, Company B, 115th Pennsylvania Infantry on 23 August.

On the Campaign

He died of "camp fever" at Sharpsburg, MD on 7 November 1862.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial at Sharpsburg to the National Cemetery in about 1867.
