Before Antietam
Age 23, he enlisted on 22 August 1862 in Pittsburgh, and mustered there as Private, Company E, 155th Pennsylvania Infantry on 2 September.
On the Campaign
Noted as the first death in his Company, he died of disease at Humphreys' Division Hospital, in the Lutheran Church in Sharpsburg on 10 October 1862.
