He was an 18 year old clerk in St. Martinville when he enlisted as Private, Company C, 8th Louisiana Infantry on 19 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in the right leg and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to No. 5 US Army General Hospital, Frederick, MD on October 22, 1862. He was absent, sick, in Richmond in November and December 1862. He was furloughed to Louisiana, date not given.
