Before Antietam

A pattern-maker in Wilmington before the War, he enrolled as First Lieutenant, Company A, First Delaware Infantry for 3 months in April 1861. He was promoted to Captain in May. He enrolled at age 22 on 7 August 1861 at Wilmington as Captain of Company A when the Regiment reorganized for 3 years service.

On the Campaign

He was on detached duty in Wilmington immediately before the Maryland Campaign, but rejoined his Company shortly before the battle. He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
