He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, in the left arm and thigh, and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 2, 1863. His left arm was amputated, but he died of wounds on August 22, 1863.
