He was raised in Drew County from age 7. He enlisted in Company C, 3rd Arkansas Infantry, at Monticello, Arkansas, June 10, 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the left thigh and right hand in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was dropped from the rolls for being absent without leave on August 31, 1864. He took an oath of allegiance at Wheeling, West Virginia on April 18, 1865.

After the War

He was one of the "successful small farmers of Drew County" after the War.
