He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Second Lieutenant on November 20, 1862 and First Lieutenant on December 1, 1862. He was detailed away on recruiting service in Arkansas on August 16, 1864.
