He enlisted in Company F, 3rd Arkansas Infantry at Rockport, Arkansas on June 20, 1861. He was elected First Lieutenant on June 20, 1861.

The rest of the War
He resigned his commission on April 8, 1863.
After the War
He was Sheriff of Hot Spring County before 1874 (when his unexpired term was filled by election of George M. Floyd).
