He enlisted in Company H, 3rd Arkansas Infantry at Tyro, Arkansas on June 15, 1861. He was promoted to Second Corporal on August 28, 1862.

He was mortally wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds on September 19, 1862.
