Before Sharpsburg

He had been apprenticed as a farmer at age 5 in Madison County, TN. He was probably in Arkansas by 1850. He enlisted in Company I, 3rd Arkansas Infantry at Tulip, Arkansas on June 25, 1861.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was confined at Fort Delaware until exchanged at Aiken's Landing, Virginia on November 10, 1862. He was listed as missing in action at Suffolk, Virginia on May 3, 1863, and captured at Grand Gulf, Mississippi on May 24, 1863. He took an oath of allegiance to the United Stated at the prison in Alton, Illinois on June 23, 1863. He was dropped from the Company rolls on August 31, 1864.

After the War

He was later postmaster in Witherspoon, Dovepark, and Donaldson, AR.
