Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted in Company K, 3rd Arkansas Infantry at Hamburg, Arkansas on May 20, 1861. He was appointed musician and transferred to the regimental band on February 28, 1862.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was confined at Fort McHenry, Maryland until exchanged on October 27, 1862. He deserted from his unit in east Tennessee in February 1864 and took an oath of allegiance to the United States at Knoxville, Tennessee on February 29, 1864(?).
