He enlisted in Company K, 3rd Arkansas Infantry at Hamburg, Arkansas on March 1, 1862, was appointed musician, and transferred to the regimental band.

He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was exchanged at Aiken's Landing, Virginia on November 10, 1862, with no further military record.
