He enlisted in Company K, 3rd Arkansas Infantry at Hamburg, Arkansas on May 20, 1861. He was appointed musician and transferred to the regimental band February 28, 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was exchanged at Aiken's Landing, Virginia on November 10, 1862, and returned to Company K. He was paroled at Appomattox, Virginia on April 12, 1865. He was captured on his way home at Memphis, Tennessee on May 11, 1865, and paroled at Memphis, Tennessee on May 16, 1865.
