Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Company E, First Louisiana Infantry on April 25, 1861 at New Orleans. He was under sentence of General Court Martial, with pay for May and June forfeited by August 17th, 1861 (at Craney Island, VA). By December 1861 he was listed as discharged by order of General Huger, but was back with his unit by May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

By December 31, 1862, he was reported absent without leave, then as having deserted to the enemy about January 15, 1863.
