He was a 22 year old clerk in Opelousas when he enlisted in Company F, 8th Louisiana Infantry on March 27, 1862 at Opelousas, LA.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was admitted October 15, 1862 to the US Army General Hospital at Frederick, MD. Sent to the hospital at Fort McHenry on October 18th, and paroled there. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange, and exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on November 10. Furloughed to Louisiana for 30 days, and later considered disabled. Paroled at Washington, LA on June 17, 1865.
