He was a 22 year old butcher in New Orleans when he enlisted in the 3rd Company, Washington Artillery on March 4, 1862 in New Orleans.

He was with his Company at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was on extra or daily duty in the Quartermaster Department (QMD), and by September 863 he was detailed to the Chief QMD, Longstreet's Corps, Chattanooga, TN. He returned to his Company on January 10, 1864. He was listed as absent without leave after April 18, 1864. He was declared a deserter and dropped from the rolls on September 1, 1864.
